Broken White Lane Line

Broken white line between same-direction lanes; lane changes are permitted when safe.

A broken (dashed) white line separates two or more lanes of traffic moving in the same direction. Drivers may change lanes across it whenever it is safe to do so: signal, check mirrors and blind spots, then move over. The broken pattern is the standard interior line on multilane same-direction roadways.
