Do Not Drive On Shoulder

Driving on the paved shoulder is prohibited; stay in the marked travel lanes.

The shoulder is reserved for emergencies, breakdowns, and authorized vehicles, not as an extra travel lane or bypass for backed-up traffic. Where this regulation is posted, using the shoulder to pass, exit, or beat congestion is a violation. Stay in the marked lanes until you reach the next exit or designated turnout.
