School Advance Warning

You are approaching a school zone or a school crossing, so slow down and watch for children.

The five-sided school sign is the only pentagon-shaped sign in the federal system, so its outline alone tells you children are nearby. It marks a school zone ahead or, when paired with a downward diagonal arrow plaque, the exact spot where children cross. Reduce your speed, cover the brake, and be ready to stop for children who step into the road without looking.
