A lane-reduction arrow is a white pavement marking whose shaft runs straight and then bends toward the adjacent lane, warning drivers that their lane is ending ahead. It is placed within the lane in advance of a lane-reduction transition, where the number of through lanes drops because the roadway narrows. Drivers should move into the open lane in the direction the arrow points before the lane runs out. It reinforces the Lane Ends warning signs and lane-line markings used through the same transition.
