Residential districts and public parks default to 25 mph. Narrow residential areas and alleys default to 15 mph.

- Urban / business-district default (mph)

Statutory default for business districts (urban core, commercial streets) is 20 mph, unless otherwise posted. Residential streets default to 25 mph; the residential default is covered separately below. Narrow residential areas and alleys default to 15 mph.

55 mph is the statutory default on all roads and highways that do not meet any other classification (residential, business, interstate, school zone), unless otherwise posted. Most rural state highways default to this speed.

20 mph in any active school speed zone. Three sign types govern enforcement: - **Flashing School Speed Limit Sign:** 20 mph applies whenever the yellow lights are flashing. - **School Hours Speed Limit Sign:** 20 mph applies during the posted hours. - **School Speed Limit Sign for When Children Are Present:** 20 mph applies when children are in or near the roadway. The school speed zone begins at the SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT 20 sign and ends at an END SCHOOL ZONE sign or the next posted speed sign.

- Interstate maximum (mph)

On most Oregon interstate highways the maximum speed for passenger cars is 65 mph (ORS 811.111(1)(a)). The 70 mph maximum applies only to two designated eastern-Oregon segments (ORS 811.111(2)): I-84 from the eastern city limit of The Dalles to the Idaho state line, and I-82 from the Washington state line to I-84. On those segments commercial vehicles remain capped at 65 mph.

- Right on red allowed unless posted

Right turns on red are allowed by default after a complete stop and a yield to traffic and pedestrians, unless a NO TURN ON RED sign is posted. Left turns on red onto a one-way road are also permitted after stopping and yielding, whether you approach from a one-way or a two-way road. The only left on red Oregon prohibits is a turn onto a two-way road.
