State Route Marker
The standard black on white circle that identifies a state highway by number.
State route markers identify highways maintained by the state rather than the federal system. The MUTCD standard shape is a white circle with black numerals, and states are also allowed to substitute a distinctive outline of their own, which is why these markers look different from one state to the next. Whatever the outline, the number identifies the route and carries no information about speed or road type.
