Interchange Advance Guide Sign
Warns you well before a freeway exit which destination it serves and how far ahead it is.
Advance guide signs are posted ahead of an interchange, typically at two miles, one mile, and one half mile, so you have room to change lanes early. The top line is the destination or street the exit serves and the bottom line is the distance to the exit itself. Seeing one of these is the cue to begin moving toward the right lane, not to slow down in the through lane.
