Exit Gore Sign

Stands in the wedge of pavement where the ramp splits away and marks the exact point of departure.

The gore is the triangular area between the through lanes and the ramp, and this sign marks the last instant you can still leave. Its upward slanting arrow points along the ramp. Once you are past it you have committed, and backing up or cutting across the gore striping is both illegal and one of the more dangerous things a driver can do on a freeway.
