Changing lanes mid-turn is exactly the collision the manual warns you to prevent. This answer carries over the reflex from single-lane turns of drifting outward as the arc begins to line up for the next move, into a dual left-turn where the manual requires holding your lane.
D. Signal and merge into the other lane midway through the turn
Merging while turning creates the very conflict the dual-lane rule tries to avoid. This answer treats a proper turn signal as permission to change lanes anywhere, importing the highway merge rule into the middle of a turn where the manual carves it out.
