The answer is "12 inches"
Pennsylvania caps how far your tires may sit from the curb. When a curb is present, you park as close as you can, and never more than 12 inches away. This is one of the easiest points to lose on the parallel-parking road test because examiners measure the gap, and one of the easiest to remember on the knowledge test because the number is a round foot. Drivers who pick D round twelve up to a familiar foot-and-a-half rule of thumb the manual does not use.
The traps in the wrong answers
A. 24 inches
Two feet is double the cap the manual sets for a curb. This answer confuses the tight curb-parking cap with the wider shoulder allowance used when no curb is present.
C. 6 inches
Six inches is stricter than the rule the manual actually states. This answer tightens the 'as close as you can' instruction into a half-foot ceiling.
D. 18 inches
Eighteen inches is a loose foot-and-a-half figure the manual does not use. This answer rounds up from twelve inches to a familiar foot-and-a-half rule of thumb.
