Broken White Edge Line

A broken white line along the right edge of the roadway shows where through lanes separate from an auxiliary lane such as an exit, entrance, or right-turn lane.

A broken white line near the right edge of the road marks the boundary between a through travel lane and an adjacent auxiliary lane, typically an exit ramp, entrance ramp, or right-turn lane. The broken pattern means lane changes across it are permitted: through traffic may move into the auxiliary lane, and merging traffic may move into the through lane, when it is safe to do so.
