Continental Crosswalk

A series of wide white bars painted parallel to traffic flow marks a high-visibility pedestrian crossing.

A continental crosswalk is a high-visibility pedestrian crossing made of wide white bars painted parallel to the direction of traffic, like piano keys. Drivers must yield to pedestrians within the crosswalk, must not stop on or block the bars, and must not pass another vehicle that has stopped for someone in the crossing. The bars are intentionally placed where tires roll between them so the marking lasts longer.
