What should you verify after completing a lane change on the expressway?
-
A.
Your rear-view mirror has been re-aimed
-
B.
Your speed has dropped by five miles per hour
-
C.
Your hazard lights have been briefly activated
-
D.
Your directional signal has switched off Correct
The answer is "Your directional signal has switched off"
The manual instructs you to make sure your directional signal goes off after you change lanes. Choice C, briefly flipping on hazard lights, is the habit of a driver who thinks a courtesy blink acknowledges the drivers they moved in front of; a signal left on instead tells them you are about to change lanes again.
The traps in the wrong answers
A. Your rear-view mirror has been re-aimed
Mirrors are set before you drive; a lane change does not shift them out of aim. This answer confuses the pre-drive mirror setup with the after-lane-change check because both involve looking in mirrors.
B. Your speed has dropped by five miles per hour
The manual does not tell you to drop your speed by a fixed amount after a lane change. Sudden or unnecessary slowing after moving over can surprise traffic behind you. This answer carries over the exit-ramp habit of decelerating once the maneuver is done.
C. Your hazard lights have been briefly activated
Hazard lights mark a stopped or slow vehicle, not a courtesy after a lane change. This answer reads a hazard blink as a thank-you signal, borrowing a convention the manual does not name.
