Driver's License Test Prep
Illinois Practice Crash Procedures

After a crash, which information must you ask from all others involved?

  1. A.
License plate number and insurance company name
  2. B.
Names, addresses, phone numbers, driver's license and plate numbers Correct
  3. C.
Names and phone numbers only; police collect the rest
  4. D.
Names, addresses, and Social Security numbers
The Why

The answer is "Names, addresses, phone numbers, driver's license and plate numbers"

The manual lists five items to ask for after a crash: name, address, phone number, driver's license number, and license plate number. Choice D pulls in Social Security number from bank and credit paperwork; nothing in the crash section asks for it, and no driver should hand it to a stranger at the scene.

Why the others miss

The traps in the wrong answers

A. License plate number and insurance company name

This answer drops name, address, phone, and license number from the required exchange list. It trims the list down to what the reader thinks an insurer really needs to file a claim.

C. Names and phone numbers only; police collect the rest

This answer delegates the exchange to police, but the manual assigns this step to the drivers themselves. It confuses the crash-report duty, which does involve police, with the exchange step, which does not.

D. Names, addresses, and Social Security numbers

This answer substitutes a Social Security number for the license and plate numbers the manual actually lists. It borrows a form field from bank or credit paperwork and applies it to a roadside exchange.
