Move-over law

Also known as: move over law, move-over rule, slow down move over law

The requirement to give room to a vehicle stopped at the roadside with its warning or hazard lights flashing. Where there are two or more lanes in your direction, move into a lane that is not next to the stopped vehicle; where you cannot change lanes safely, slow down as you pass. Which stopped vehicles are covered, and how far you must slow, are set by state law.
