Florida Practice Vehicle Equipment

Under Florida equipment law, a vehicle horn must be audible from at least what distance?

  1. A.
    500 feet
  2. B.
    200 feet Correct
  3. C.
    50 feet
  4. D.
    100 feet
The Why

The answer is "200 feet"

The required-equipment table sets the horn's audible range at 200 feet. Choice C borrows the 50-foot figure from the muffler entry in Equipment NOT Permitted directly below the table, the only other audibility number on the same page.

Why the others miss

The traps in the wrong answers

A. 500 feet

Five hundred feet is the directional-signal visibility standard, not a horn audibility figure. This answer carries the 500-foot number down from the directional-signal row directly above the horn row, treating a visibility figure as an audibility one.

C. 50 feet

Fifty feet is the loudness ceiling above which a muffler becomes illegal, not a horn requirement. This answer confuses the two audibility figures on page 38, pulling the muffler limit down into the horn row.

D. 100 feet

No row in the required-equipment table uses 100 feet. This answer defaults to a round number when the horn figure is not memorized, since 100 feet feels like a plausible car-horn distance.
