The traps in the wrong answers
A. The center lane, to leave passing room on either side
A center lane on a five-lane road is reserved for left turns, not through travel. This answer confuses the through lanes with the center turn lane, borrowing its use as a comfortable middle.
B. Any lane, as long as you match the flow of traffic
Matching traffic speed does not remove the requirement to keep right when not passing. This answer treats speed match as the whole rule, a habit picked up on lightly used highways where lane discipline slips.
D. The left lanes, so you can watch oncoming traffic sooner
Left-lane cruising is the opposite of the keep-right rule the manual states. This answer inverts the keep-right rule on the theory that seeing oncoming traffic earlier is safer.
