Placing a tire on the line already puts you past the limit the manual sets; the rule is to stop behind it. Copies the parking-lot habit of pulling the front bumper up to touch a painted stripe.
C. Past the stop line but before the crosswalk
Rolling past the stop line breaks the rule even if you stop again before the crosswalk. Treats the crosswalk as the real stop point and reads the painted bar behind it as a courtesy warning.
D. At the edge of the intersection
When a stop line is painted, that line is the limit the manual names, and the intersection edge doesn't come into it. Reaches for the intersection-edge habit used at plain unmarked corners, applying it even with a painted stop line clearly in view.
