Reduced Speed Limit Ahead
A lower speed limit starts ahead, so slow to the posted number before you reach it.
W3-5 shows the speed limit that is about to take effect, in miles per hour, above an arrow pointing to where it begins. It is a warning sign, not the limit itself, so you are still under the current limit until you pass the regulatory sign it announces. Do your slowing down in this gap, because arriving at the reduced-speed zone still doing highway speed is both a citation and the most common way drivers rear-end a work-zone queue.
