Fresh Oil

The pavement ahead has just been treated with oil or tar, so slow down because it is slippery and will spray onto your vehicle.

W21-2 warns that a fresh oil or tar surface treatment has been laid down and has not yet set. The surface offers much less grip than it looks like it should, so brake and steer gently and leave extra following distance. Loose stone chips and oil thrown up by the vehicle ahead are also why you should back well off rather than tailgate through the treated section.
