The word BUS marks a lane or curb zone designated for bus use; posted signs define who may enter and when.

The word BUS is a white pavement legend that designates a lane or curb zone set aside for bus use, such as a bus-only lane or a bus stop. This word marking supplements the regulatory signs at the location, and those signs define who may use the lane and during which hours. The standard federal legends for a bus preferential lane or stop are BUS ONLY and BUS STOP, and all such preferential-lane word markings are white. Watch for the posted signs to learn exactly when the restriction applies and whether movements such as turns or passenger loading are allowed.
