Drivers who pick B latch onto the 7 1/2-foot rail-interference figure printed right after this one and read it as the crossing distance.
The traps in the wrong answers

20 feet is the crosswalk rule. This answer substitutes the 20-foot crosswalk-at-an-intersection buffer for the railroad-crossing rule.
B. 7 1/2 feet.
