In a business or residential area, how far before your turn must you begin a continuous turn signal?
-
A.
300 feet
-
B.
50 feet
-
C.
100 feet Correct
-
D.
200 feet
The answer is "100 feet"
In a business or residential area, the continuous signal must run for at least 100 feet before the turn. Everywhere else, the distance is 200 feet, and a driver who does most of their miles on rural roads carries that 200-foot figure into town.
The traps in the wrong answers
A. 300 feet
The signal rule tops out at 200 feet even outside town. This answer reaches for a figure half-remembered from the 300-foot dim-lights rule in the equipment chapter.
B. 50 feet
The rule sets 100 feet in a business or residential area, not 50. This answer guesses a smaller round number without checking which distance the rule sets.
D. 200 feet
The 200-foot distance belongs to areas outside business and residential zones. A driver who mostly uses rural roads keeps the country-road number in mind when the rule shifts in town.
