Driver's License Test Prep
Illinois Practice Speed Limits

The manual says that when a minimum speed limit is not posted, a driver:

  1. A.
Should drive at the posted maximum minus five mph
  2. B.
Must match the speed of the fastest vehicle in the flow
  3. C.
Should not drive so slowly as to interfere with traffic Correct
  4. D.
May drive at any speed the driver considers safe
The Why

The answer is "Should not drive so slowly as to interfere with traffic"

When no minimum is posted, the manual still forbids driving so slowly that you interfere with the normal movement of traffic. D snags drivers who read a missing sign as blanket permission to pick any pace they want, but the traffic-interference test applies even without a posted number.

Why the others miss

The traps in the wrong answers

A. Should drive at the posted maximum minus five mph

The manual does not set a five-mph buffer below the posted maximum. This answer invents a fixed offset from the maximum that the manual never states.

B. Must match the speed of the fastest vehicle in the flow

The manual does not require matching the fastest vehicle; it forbids blocking normal flow. This answer reads match-the-flow guidance as a rule about matching the fastest driver on the road.

D. May drive at any speed the driver considers safe

A missing minimum sign does not license any pace the driver picks. This answer treats an absent sign as blanket permission rather than as a case the manual still governs.
