A motorcyclist is traveling in the lane ahead of you. What does the manual say about lane sharing with the motorcycle?
-
A.
Share only in slow traffic under 25 mph.
-
B.
Do not share; the motorcycle is entitled to the entire lane. Correct
-
C.
Share the lane when there is room for both vehicles.
-
D.
Share only when you are passing the motorcycle.
The answer is "Do not share; the motorcycle is entitled to the entire lane."
A motorcycle is entitled to the full width of a traffic lane; do not share the lane, even when it looks like two vehicles fit. Drivers who see empty space beside a bike and read it as an invitation pick the answer about sharing when there is room.
The traps in the wrong answers
A. Share only in slow traffic under 25 mph.
The manual sets no speed threshold below which lane sharing becomes permitted. This answer invents a slow-traffic exception the manual does not offer for lane sharing.
C. Share the lane when there is room for both vehicles.
The manual specifically bans lane sharing, even when a passenger vehicle would physically fit beside a bike. This answer reads visible empty space as an invitation, when the manual reserves the whole lane for the rider.
D. Share only when you are passing the motorcycle.
Passing a motorcycle is done in the adjacent lane, not by sharing the same lane. This answer confuses the pass-a-motorcycle rule, which uses the adjacent lane, with sharing that stays in the same lane.
