Ignition interlock
Also known as: ignition interlock device, IID, breath interlock, car breathalyzer
A breath-alcohol testing device wired into a vehicle's ignition that prevents the engine from starting if it detects alcohol above a preset limit. Courts and licensing agencies commonly require installation as a condition of license reinstatement after a DUI conviction.
