Hydroplaning

Also known as: aquaplaning

A loss of traction that occurs when a layer of water on the road lifts the tires off the pavement, leaving the driver with little or no steering or braking control. The recommended response is to ease off the accelerator without braking sharply and to steer straight until the tires regain contact.
