Double yellow line
Also known as: solid double yellow, double solid yellow
Two solid yellow lines between opposing lanes of traffic, prohibiting passing from either direction. Crossing it is allowed only where state law makes an exception. Turning left into or out of a road, driveway or alley is the exception every state recognizes, and signs may permit others. Many states, including Pennsylvania, add a second: crossing to give a bicyclist the legal passing clearance when the way ahead is clear. Check the exception list for the state you drive in rather than assuming the line is absolute.
