Blind spot

Also known as: blindspot, blind zone, no-zone

An area around a vehicle that the driver cannot see using mirrors alone, typically to the rear sides where mirror coverage ends and peripheral vision begins. A quick head turn to check the blind spot before changing lanes or merging is required to confirm the lane is clear.
