Florida Practice Warning Signs

A warning sign shows the main highway with a smaller road joining it from one side. What does the Florida manual say it means?

Yellow diamond with a black T-shaped symbol showing a vertical road and a perpendicular road branching off to the right.
  1. A.
Pavement ends where the joining road meets the highway.
  2. B.
A crossroad cuts through the main highway just ahead.
  3. C.
The lane on that side is reserved for restricted use.
  4. D.
Another road enters from that side; watch for traffic joining the highway. Correct
The Why

The answer is "Another road enters from that side; watch for traffic joining the highway."

A side road sign means another road enters the highway from the side shown, and the driver watches for traffic coming out of it. The trap is the cross road answer, because drivers see any intersection diagram and reach for a four-way crossing rather than a one-sided junction.

Why the others miss

The traps in the wrong answers

A. Pavement ends where the joining road meets the highway.

Pavement changes are covered by the Pavement Ends sign, not by a side road warning. This answer grabs the Pavement Ends explanation for any warning that involves a second road.

B. A crossroad cuts through the main highway just ahead.

A crossroad sign shows a road crossing the highway; the side road diagram shows a one-sided junction. This answer reads any intersection image as a four-way crossing rather than a one-sided junction.

C. The lane on that side is reserved for restricted use.

Restricted-lane notices are regulatory white-and-black signs, not yellow warning diamonds. This answer confuses the yellow warning category with the regulatory Restricted Lane Ahead sign.
