The traps in the wrong answers
A. Steer onto the shoulder to give the passer the full lane
The manual says to move to the right side of your lane, not to leave the roadway for the shoulder. This answer extends 'move to the right side of your lane' past the lane line, treating the shoulder as extra room the passing section does not authorize.
C. Flash your brake lights to warn drivers coming toward you
The Being Passed section assigns no warning signal to the driver being passed; the horn tap and headlight flash belong to the passing driver. This answer borrows the horn tap or headlight flash the manual gives the passing driver and hands it to the wrong car.
D. Speed up briefly so the pass finishes more quickly
Speeding up stretches out the pass and traps the other driver in the oncoming lane longer, which is the opposite of what the manual instructs. This answer treats matching the passer's pace as a courtesy, when any speed increase lengthens the time the passer spends exposed to oncoming traffic.
